Philomena was born in Galway on the West Coast of Ireland.

With her husband she has travelled throughout Europe, living in England, Holland, Germany and France. She has now decided to settle down in France where she can enjoy her music, good food and wine shared with friends, all year round golf, her garden and painting.

She took up painting in 2000 and started with watercolours. The translucence of the medium lends itself ideally to reflecting the surrounding clear light of the summers as well as of those frequent frosty yet brilliantly sunny winter days. Her floral and animal works show this vivacity and life.

Moving to oils was a natural progression which led to the ability to show the contrast of light and shadow and depth of colour more dramatically. Witness the “masters” series of oils reproduced during a master class with Barbara Kryvovias.

Never seeking to show “reality”, many of Philomena’s paintings show a quirkiness, some might also say naivety. But the energy and imagination which most likely comes from her Celtic roots shines through - no matter what the subject or the medium.

Philomena paints flowers, animals, landscapes, fantasies and people. She admits to liking people best.
